Meet our students
Our students come from all over the world and have many different backgrounds. When they graduate, they’ll take many different paths. One thing they have in common? They’re all part of our Humanities community — and they’re looking forward to saying a big “Welc-HUM” to you.
Meet Yiming
Thinking, creating, reading and writing – these are the things that brought Yiming to Humanities. She loves the nearby trails and the happy campus life.
Extracurricular & Student Clubs
There are so many ways to get involved in extracurricular activities at Mac. From the McMaster Humanities Society, to department clubs like the Classics Club (which has been around since 1930!) to clubs run by the McMaster Student Union, there’s a group for everyone.
In addition to clubs associated with the Humanities, you can also join a wide range of other student clubs that range from art to athletics. Many of these clubs are organized under the McMaster Student Union. A complete list of the more than 300+ clubs supported by the MSU can be found on their website.
The McMaster Humanities Society (MHS)
Established in 1988, the McMaster Humanities Society represents students enrolled in Humanities programs. The MHS is run by an elected executive and is supported by Humanities student representatives that are known as the Navy Nation or the ‘Navies’, named after the navy blue coveralls that they wear during Welcome Week.

Clubs and groups
Here are just some of the clubs that exist within the Faculty of Humanities. Many of them are entirely student run and have their own executive teams. Check out their social accounts to see what they are up to!
Humanities Student Ambassador program
The Humanities Student Ambassador program is a great way for students to get involved in our community. Our ambassadors serve as representatives of the Faculty and their respective program. They play a crucial role in helping prospective students understand why McMaster and the Faculty of Humanities may be the right fit for them. Our ambassadors work alongside the Humanities Students Experience team to connect with thousands of students throughout the year through open houses, 1:1 connections, highschool visits, social media, creative projects and more. This is a unique opportunity for students to engage with future McMaster students and the community, to share their undergraduate experiences and their passion for Humanities at Mac!
